Infrastructure Consortium for Africa

The Infrastructure Consortium for Africa (ICA) is an international organization dedicated to facilitate progress in support of economic growth and development in Africa. ICA was established at the 31st G8 summit at Gleneagles, Scotland in the United Kingdom in 2005. The consortium is composed its members and a small secretariat hosted by the African Development Bank (ADB). In addition to the ADB, members include the G8 countries -- Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States -- and also the World Bank Group, the European Commission, the European Investment Bank and the Development Bank of Southern Africa.[1]

A partnership between bilateral donors, multilateral agencies and African institutions, the ICA makes its members more effective at supporting infrastructure by pooling efforts in selected key areas.

Through the Secretariat, the Consortium collaborates closely with the African Union (AU), its New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) programme and regional economic communities.

The ICA’s annual meeting is hosted by the country holding the Presidency of the G8. The 2008 meeting was held in Tokyo in March 2008, and the 2009 meeting is planned for mid-March in Rome.[1]
